Togean : A Hidden Paradise in Sulawesi

Togean (or Togian) is an islands located in the Gulf of Tomini, Central Sulawesi. Administratively, the islands are located in Tojo Una-una-based Ampana. Togean Islands consist of 56 islands with the island of Una-una, Batudaka, Togian and Talatakoh as the main islands.  
Togean Islands is the only place in Indonesia which is the most important part of coral reef ecosystems of the 'coral triangle' which covers an area of Indonesia, Filipinos, Malaysia, Papua New Guinea, Japan and Australia.

There are over three hundred species of coral, some may even be unclassified, and a wonderful diversity of life and color in the underwater universe. Six new species of corals are also found in the Banggai Islands Togean and each one species of the genus Acropora, Porites, Leptoseris, Echinophyllia and 2 species of the genus Galaxea. Reef fish species recorded 596 fish species belonging to 62 Familia. Type Paracheilinus togeanensis and Ecsenius allegedly sp is endemic only to be found in the Islands Togean.

How To Go There

There are several ways that can be used to reach the islands Togean.
The route from Jakarta to Togean are: Jakarta-Palu-Ampana-Togean. From Jakarta to Palu You can use the Lion Air, Sriwijaya Air, and Garuda Indonesia, Sukarno Hatta Airport to Mutiara Airport Palu about 3 hours. Ticket prices range from 700 thousand dollars to one million dollars.

From the Palu Mutiara Airport, you can hire a taxi to travel and it costs around Rp50,000.00. Travel will bring you to Ampana. Here's a travel option to the fleet at a rate of about Rp110.000,00 Ampana.

The trip from Palu to Ampana through Poso approximately 375 km or 10 hours. Next continue the trip by boat from Ampana to Wakai and Malenge. This boat is a regular schedule every day at 10:00 am to 11:00 am.
